1992 Ford Fiesta RS 1800

Sold for £2,869

(including buyers premium)

Lot details
Registration No: K195MGC
Chassis No: NG00589
Mot Expiry: Nov 2007

Introduced in February 1992, the RS1800 inherited the RS Turbo's mantle as the 'hottest' Fiesta (though due to slow sales, the two models overlapped in the showrooms by some months). Based around a standard three-door monocoque bodyshell, the newcomer was equipped with Macpherson strut independent front suspension, a trailing-arm located torsion-beam rear axle, disc / drum brakes and rack and pinion steering. Similar to that found in the XR2i 16v, its 1796cc DOHC four-cylinder engine featured higher profile camshafts, larger throttle bodies and a more aggressive engine management chip. Credited with 130bhp and 120lbft of torque, it was mated to five-speed 'B5' manual transmission. Reputedly capable of 0-60mph in 8.1 seconds and 127mph, the RS1800 was a match for the likes of the Peugeot 205GTi 1.9 and Renault Clio 16v. Visually distinguished from its lesser siblings by a colour-coded rear hatch spoiler, 'RS' / '1800' badging and 14in polished five-spoke alloys, the Fast Ford also boasted Recaro front seats and 'Raven' trim. A much underrated driver's car, the Fiesta RS1800 is now becoming collectable.
Finished in red with dark grey / black cloth upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "good" condition with regard to its 1796cc engine, five-speed manual gearbox, electrical equipment, interior trim, chassis, bodywork, paintwork and wheels / tyres. Entering the current family ownership in December 1992 when it was purchased new from Dees of Croydon, 'K195 MGC' is said to have covered a mere 48,000 miles since. Only ever used as a second car and laid-up from 2002 until 2005 (save for the occasional MOT outing), the RS1800 was reportedly treated to a "full service, MOT and new cambelt on November 1st 2006". Tarnished alloys and worn driver's seat aside (the only one to be sat on) this low mileage RS1800 appears highly presentable. Perfect for boy racers and RS collectors of all ages, 'K195 MGC' is offered for sale with history file (service record book, previous MOTs, receipts etc), MOT certificate valid until November 2007 and road tax until November 2006.
