The Ossa company entered the world of motorcycle production in 1946, although the firm had been established for considerably longer producing cinema projectors. Early machines featured both two stroke and four stroke power-plants and catered to the need for economic transport. By the nineteen sixties production concentrated on lightweight two-stroke singles ideally suited to use in off road motorcycles. By the beginning of the 1970's Ossa were well established in the of road world, producing excellent trials bikes aided by the design input of Mick Andrews and enduros.
This immaculate example of the Desert Phantom L76 enduro dating from 1976 is a good example of the firms products. The single cylinder 250cc engine was reputed to produce in the region of 30 bhp with drive being transmitted to the rear wheel via a 5 speed gearbox. Intended for use in the long distance desert enduros popular at the time in the States ground clearance was sacrificed in the interests of stability, the Desert Phantom having 32mm less clearance than its sister Super Pioneer enduro. Finished in metallic red with white mudguards it is a rare survivor presented in lovely condition having been restored and is offered with Spanish papers.
