The Kenneth Howes styled Sunbeam Alpine, a front-engined rearwheel drive layout with unitary-construction open bodyshell employing the Hillman Husky estate floorpan with crossbracing, was launched by the Rootes family owned Group of the same name in 1959. The original Alpine with its pointy rear fins pitched at the US-market was progressively uprated through five different models - initially, with 1494cc Rapier engine and 4-on-the-floor transmission and, latterly, with capacity increased to 1725cc.
This righthand drive Alpine first left the Ryton plant at Coventry in 1965. The 2-seater sporting convertible is claimed to be a very good solid motor car with the benefit of period hardtop and radio. Also included are a handbook, an old green logbook, old tax discs and MOTs as well as bills detailing £1000s spent on restoration and repairs.
The current condition of the bodywork, the white paintwork and the red interior, the 1725cc 4-cylinder engine, all the electrical equipment and the 4-speed manual gearbox is described as being very good. The MOT is current until August.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
