Lot details
Registration No: Un-Reg
Chassis No: 1E1480
Mot Expiry: None

According to its accompanying Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate (no. 38895 issued January 13th 2014) this barn-find right hand drive Series 1 4.2-litre E-Type Roadster was manufactured on February 11th 1966, finished in Carmen Red with Black leather interior, and dispatched to Japan on March 5th 1966 via distributor Shintoyo Enterprises of Tokyo. First registered in 1968, it is believed to have had just two or three former keepers. The previous owner purchased the car in 1999 and is understood to have used it for three or four years before putting it into storage where it remained until the vendor acquired it in December 2013. Subsequently re-imported to the UK in March this year the car is accompanied by NOVA certification which will facilitate UK registration documents to be issued.
It is described by the vendor as being in remarkably original rust-free condition with no evidence of any welded repairs and excellent panel fit. Since arriving in the UK, the engine has been carefully re-commissioned with fresh oil, filter, valves re-shimmed and an overhaul of the fuel system. It is said that the unit now runs strongly with very good oil pressure and a clean exhaust. The braking system has benefitted from a new servo and rebuilt front callipers. Whilst the car has not been fully road tested, the vendor reports that all gears select and the car is driveable.
With the exception of the passenger door which needs repainting, the paintwork is generally in good condition whilst the interior is described as being in original but useable condition. The hood assembly is interesting in that it appears to be the original factory-fitted item.
One of just 863 right hand drive Series 1 4.2 roadsters produced at Browns Lane, chassis 1E 1480 pleasingly retains its original colour scheme and displays an unwarranted 47,699 km on its odometer.
This matching- numbers barn-find E-Type offers an excellent opportunity to either lightly re-commission for use (thus retaining the delightfully evocative 1960's patina) or to form the basis of a full restoration that still retains some degree of originality.

PLEASE NOTE: The engine number stamped on the block is 7E-14849/9 and this differs from the number stamped on the chassis plate and quoted on the Heritage Certificate. Consequently this is not a matching numbers vehicle as described in the catalogue. However, research indicates the prefix '7E' relates to a 4.2 unit fitted to Series 1 and 1.5 E-Types so it is fitted with a correct type engine.
