Effectively replacing the GTV500 as Moto Guzzi's premier road-going sports bike, the Falcone was introduced in 1950 (though its predecessor lived on as the softer-edged Astore until 1953). Born of a golden era for the Italian manufacturer (Guzzis won the 250cc World Championship twice between 1949-1952 and then took the 350cc title every year from 1953-1957), the Falcone has since become regarded as one of the world's 'most romantic bikes'. Characterised by its bright red livery and air cooled flat single-cylinder 500cc engine (complete with 'bacon slicer' flywheel guard), it derived its constant mesh gearbox design from the firm's Dondolino road-racer. Reputedly capable of some 85mph, its low-revving power delivery makes for a friendly ride.
Said to have emerged from restoration in 2004, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in good overall condition. Reported to come with an original owner's handbook, reproduction workshop manual and a "complete list of registered owners as on log books", its current MOT certificate is valid until May 2006.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
