Concerned at the runaway success of Ford's pony/muscle car, the ubiquitous Mustang, General Motors brought the first generation Camaro to market in the September of 1966. It was based on a new, rear-wheel drive platform and shared both that and a variety of other major components with the Pontiac Firebird. The 2+2 was available as either a two-door Coupe or Convertible and came with a choice of no less than six powerplants, from a 4.1-litre straight-six to a 6.5-litre V8, and three trim and tuning packages - RS, SS and Z28. Like Ford, Chevrolet believed the old adage that 'whatever won on Sunday sold on Monday' and wasted little time in taking to the tracks. Working with Roger Penske, they operated an unofficially factory-backed team, winning the Trans-Am Series outright with Mark Donohue. The Camaro was developed through four distinct generations before a seven year hiatus preceded a new model bearing the legendary name in 2009. Production of that version continues today. The fourth generation is the one that concerns us here, and carried the famous badge from 1993 until 2002. By 1999 the mighty Z28 option was powered by a 310bhp version of the all-alloy LS1 346ci (5.7-litre) V8 and drove through a Torsen differential.
This left-hand drive Camaro is a Z28 Convertible from 1999. It sports Red bodywork complemented by a Grey leather interior and is equipped with four-speed automatic transmission. It has apparently had just two private owners from new and has never been used in wet conditions. The vendor warrants the notably low indicated mileage of 34,000 to be correct and regards the bodywork, paintwork, interior trim, engine and gearbox to all be in "A1" order. This imposing muscle car comes with original purchase invoice and an MOT valid into August. What better way to enjoy the summer sun?
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
