"Export or Die!" proclaimed the postwar Government to the survivors of British industry. Those firms who could not perform strongly in export markets were denied their allocation of precious steel. Austin got their raw materials as, even in 1946, the Birmingham firm's share of the entire UK export market was over 50 per cent.
Aimed to capture US dollars, the 1948 London Motor Show launched A90 Atlantic was a stunner with all-enveloping bodywork which still looks futuristic to this day. On offer here is what the vendor says is a very nice example of the Austin Atlantic, a 1952 Longbridge-built coupe with reportedly lovely bodywork in black with red interior.
The car was in last ownership from 1988 and the 89,304 miles displayed on the odometer when entered for this sale is believed by the vendor to be the genuine total mileage for the car from new. On file are old MOTs, while the current condition of chassis, body panels, paint, trim, 2.6-litre 4-cylinder motor and 4-speed manual gearbox are described as being good.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
