The SB5 was a significant machine in the Rimini based manufacturers history. From the company's inception they had established a reputation for making motorcycles of exceptional quality, wholly focused on the needs of the racing and sporting rider without compromise. The tubular steel frames not only endowed the machines with excellent handling but were works of art in their own right.
The SB5, powered by the GSX1100 EF engine, together with the nearly identical Yamaha powered YB5 marked the end of an era for the company in that they were the last Bimota's built using tubular steel frames, all the subsequent machines would employ alloy beam type frames. They were also the first machines to emanate from the factory with the provision pillion passenger.
The double overhead cam, liquid cooled Suzuki engine displaced 1135cc delivering 115 bhp at 8,500 rpm, which proved to be capable of propelling the 237.6 kg machine to a top speed of 255 km/h and firing it through the quarter mile in 10.89 seconds. The frame was constructed of chrome molybdenum tubes with machines Avional alloy engine plates marrying the engine to the chassis. 40mm front forks equipped with twin Brembo callipers working on 280 mm discs graced the front end with a single 280mm Brembo disc and calliper equipping the rear.
In total 87 complete SB5's left the factory and a further 71 kits were supplied to owners of existing Suzuki's during the models two year production life. When tested by "La Moto" in 1985 they said of the SB5 that "Riding a Bimota almost always imparts a special flavour, because there is no other big sport bike that reeks almost immediately of that luxury Grand Prix aroma.....this is the most pleasing Bimota that we have tested so far".
The one owner from new example is described as being in "immaculate" condition and has recorded only 9219 km's.

PLEASE NOTE: The side stand on this motorcycle is spring-loaded. Please take care when moving the machine.
