Motor Car Location: Nottinghamshire

  • Desirable 24-valve example

  • Reportedly only used to get an MOT annually throughout current custodianship
  • Only four former keepers
  • Due to be freshly serviced in time for the sale

Introduced in 1986, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W124) is still renowned for its engineering integrity and superb build quality. A monocoque chassis design equipped with beautifully balanced coil-sprung suspension (wishbone front / multi-link rear), nicely weighted power-assisted steering and responsive four-wheel disc brakes, it was propelled by a generous selection of petrol and diesel engines. Available in saloon, estate, coupe and convertible guises, the vast majority were specified with automatic transmission. An early flagship for the range, the 300CE exhibited notably sure-footed handling thanks to its forward-biased 53:47 weight distribution. Credited with 177bhp and 188lbft of torque, its 2962cc SOHC straight-six powerplant reputedly enabled the pillarless four-seater to accelerate from 0-60mph in 8.5 seconds and onto 137mph. Belying its performance potential, the two-door coupe was blessed with elegant yet understated styling and a cosseting interior.

This 300 CE - 24 was manufactured in 1990, being first UK registered on the 14th of January 1990. An original 24 valve example, the Mercedes is fitted with the 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine mated to an automatic transmission. Finished in red paintwork with beige leather interior upholstery. Entering current, now deceased, ownership in 1997, the 300 CE is rumoured to have only been driven to get a fresh MOT certificate annually, however the speedometer stopped working in 2006 so this cannot be validated. The mileage is recorded at 130,380 miles and has had only four former keepers. Offered with a current MOT certificate until October 2022, a current V5C and three keys, the Mercedes is due to benefit from being freshly serviced prior to the sale.
