The E-Type replacing XJS appeared in Jaguar dealer showrooms from 1975. Sharing much of its running gear with the XJ6/XJ12 saloons, albeit with shortened wheelbase and either 5.3-litre twelve or (later) 3.6 litre six under bonnet, the Malcolm Sayer styled model was much more of a grand tourer with a decent-sized boot than an out-and-out sportscar.
This 1989-manufactured XJS, a right-hand drive convertible with twin headlamps conversion, has been well maintained, says the entrant, having been in receipt of a rolling programme of preventative maintenance to keep it in what is claimed to be excellent condition. Full service history has been charted and the documents file contains lots of previous MOTs (the latest valid until this August) and bills detailing work carried out.
Current condition of bodyshell is described as being very good, as are body panels and black paintwork, with cream leather interior also good. Reportedly all in very good order, too, are 5343cc capacity V12 engine, three-speed automatic transmission and electrical equipment. Whilst the 75,609 mileage displayed when entered for this sale is believed by the vendor to be the genuine total mileage for this high-powered open Jaguar.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
