The Honda Motor Company was founded by Soichiro Honda in 1937, initially producing piston rings for Toyota. They made their first motorcycle in 1949 and within 10 years had become the biggest producer in the world having gone on to manufacture over 400 million two-wheelers as well as millions of other power products. In the USA they used the advertising slogan 'You meet the nicest people on a Honda' and the Monkey bike range helped to prove this. Initially only a very small 50cc engined bike the slightly bigger ST Dax range proved popular with motorhome, boat and caravan owners due to its fold down handlebars allowing it to be carried easily.
This ST70 Dax has been in one family ownership from new, being used on a canal boat to shuttle backwards and forwards once docked up. The bike was MOTd in April after a few years in storage and would benefit from some restoration work but is original including the chrome upswept exhaust system. It comes together with the original owners and service books a few old MOTs and receipts.
