1977 Alfa Romeo Giulia Super Nuova

Lot details

Registration No: YNF 520S
Chassis No: AR105260028227
MOT: Exempt

Motor Car Location: Northamptonshire

  • Only three UK keepers since importation
  • Uprated with 2-Litre Nord GTV engine and Alfaholics suspension
  • Expenditure of in excess of £7,000 across the past four years
  • Usable example with performance upgrades

The boxy shape of 105 Series Giulias belied a low drag coefficient (superior to that of similarly aged Porsche 911s). When coupled with the 1.6-litre Super version of the company's ubiquitous all-alloy, DOHC, four-cylinder engine, the result was a performance car capable of shaming many sporting two-seaters of the period. It's perhaps no surprise then that these delightful saloons are highly collectable today and racing versions are still being campaigned with vigour on all continents. The specification was straightforward - a four-door, three-box, lightweight (2,205 lbs) body powered by a front-mounted engine driving the rear wheels. The suspension was independent at the front and braking by servo-assisted discs all round. A slick five-speed manual gearbox ensured optimum performance and added to driver satisfaction. The range first saw the light of day in 1962 and was gradually updated until replaced by the Giulietta in 1978.

This left-hand drive example was manufactured in 1977 (making it one of the last 105 Series), before being shipped to Amsterdam for distribution in March 1978. Arriving on UK shores in 2014 from Holland, the Giulia was produced originally as a 1600 model, however, has since been fitted with the 1962cc engine from a period-correct GTV prior to import to the UK, which has been fitted with uprated cams and Dellorto 40s carburettors. Finished in the original colour scheme of Faggio (Aubergine Black) with the addition of a Green nose cone, the vendor describes the paintwork as requiring preparation and repaint to bring up to a high standard, the interior is trimmed in ‘Wild Boar’ colour scheme vinyl.

The Alfa Romeo has also benefitted from further upgrades such as Alfaholics fast-road suspension (including Spax shock-absorbers, stiffer springs and an anti-roll bar), renewed starting system, fuel tank, and GTA-R 15’’ alloy wheels with new Avon tyres. Invoices on file illustrate expenditure in 2018 on tuning and starting system rectification costing circa £780, with further invoices relating to engine, suspension and body repairs in the 2016-7 period amounting to over £6,550. The Giulia has received new inner and outer sills, suspension mounts, floor sections, and front panel during the body refurbishment. Supplied with a V5C, ‘Certificato Di Originie’, Dutch service booklet with several entries, a collection of invoices and some past MOTs.
