The Rover company made its name, like lots of other motor manufacturers, in bicycles, and made its first car in 1904. It brought out the P4/P5 and P6 models after the war and merged with Leyland in 1966 before being absorbed by British Leyland and its most lasting legacy is of course the Landrover which was announced in 1948. Launched in 1963 the 2000 range was very much 'out with the old and in with the new'.
