When the once UK market leading British Motor Corporation replaced the MGA with the B in 1962, the most fundamental differences were the employment of a unitary-construction shell rather than a separate chassis and body, and a larger 1798cc four-cylinder engine instead of the 1622cc power unit fitted to the final run of MGAs.
This 1966-built MGB GT, a right-hand drive fixed head on wires, was fully restored 1996-98, when various body panels including the floor pans were renewed. The car was repainted green and a new black cloth interior fitted along with inertia-reel safety belts. Both the exhaust and the tyres have also been renewed and the brakes rebuilt.
The current condition of the bodyshell is described by the entrant as being excellent and the same goes for the paintwork and the interior. The 1.8-litre four is reportedly healthy with the four-speed manual transmission and the electrics said to be in excellent order.
Since refurbishment, maintenance is claimed by the vendor to have been kept up, the only known fault declared being an erratic rev counter, the cable for which has been disconnected. The latest MOT certificate will be valid until October.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
