The Triumph TR3 of 1955 was a direct evolution of the TR2. With it came minor styling revisions, a slight hike in power and the options of an occasional rear seat and a bolt-on steel hard top. The overdrive system for the four-speed manual gearbox was upgraded to work on the top three ratios, effectively giving a seven-speed gearbox. In 1956 the front brakes were changed from drum to disc units. A great sales success on both sides of the Atlantic, the model provided a rather more visceral alternative to its MG and Jaguar competition.

This TR3 was manufactured in 1957 and was supplied new in right-hand-drive to the United Kingdom on the 1st of June 1957. Fitted with the 1991cc straight-four engine with manual transmission, the Triumph is finished in Red with complimenting Black with White piped leather interior upholstery. ‘YYA 377’ has covered a recorded mileage of 61,372 miles (at time of consignment) and has had only three owners from new, with the first two owners retaining the car for long periods before the Triumph entered ownership with its current registered keeper in 2016.

Understood to have a competition history earlier in its life, the TR3 has several uprated parts for competition use. Providing with a new tonneau cover in 2017 along with a renewed carburettor jet and engine servicing costing c.£1,150, the Triumph was subsequently serviced again in 2018. Subject to much work in 2020 to the cost of £1,275 which comprised carburettor overhaul, choke adjustment, renewed ignition coil and condenser, an overhauled front brake calliper and further brake fettling. ‘YYA 377’ is offered with a history file which comprises the original handbook, current V5C and past logbook copies, a selection of invoices and several past MOT certificates.
