Having worked on both their F2 and F3 racing cars for Graham Warner's famous Chiswick-based Chequered Flag race team, Tony Kitchiner set up on his own to produce F3 single-seaters in West London. His monocoque K2, which had an unusually short wheelbase, cantilever-type inboard front suspension and Broadspeed or Holbay motor, made its international debut early in the 1969 season in French F3 races. It showed much promise when test-driven by the great and late Francois Cevert.
By mid-season, after the marque had only managed a sixth at Montlhery, a disillusioned Kitchiner had converted the same K2 into a very compact F5000. By the end of the year it had reverted back to a F3 again as the K2A - whilst Kitchiner went on to convert a McLaren M10B, calling it the Kitchmac, before running an M19 in F5000 and finally calling time on racing in 1974. Before then, Kitchiner-Rover equipped Gordon Spice had been competitive in the 1970 F5000 Championship.
On offer here is a 1969-dated Kitchiner K3A Formula 5000 single seater powered by a lightweight 4-litre Rover V8. Last rebuilt some four years ago, with many components renewed, and only raced once since, it is claimed generally to be in good condition. Issued with all-important FIA Historic Vehicle Identity and HSCC papers, and eligible for Historic F5000 and Derek Bell races in the UK, the Oulton Park Gold Cup, as well as FORCE events at such great venues as Spa, the Nurburgring and Dijon, this F5000 is a practical budget entry into major league Historic racing.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
