Lot details Registration No: LXP 367 Chassis No: LAG-50-247 Mot Expiry: None
Powered by a WO Bentley and Willie Watson-designed DOHC straight-six engine (derivations of which would later propel the Aston Martin range to fame), the 2.6 Litre Lagonda also featured a brand new chassis incorporating all-round independent suspension and flowing Frank Feeley-penned bodywork.
This 'barn find' 1951 2.6 Litre Saloon has had just three owners from new, the first of whom retained it through to November 1958. The second keeper used the Lagonda until the mid '70s, during which time the crankshaft was reportedly polished, new bearing shells fitted and the back axle renewed. 'LXP 367' then lay dormant until purchased by the vendor in August of last year. Plans to convert the saloon into a special were shelved following his subsequent acquisition of a 1951 2.6 Litre Drophead Coupe.
Finished in Black and Maroon with Red leather upholstery, it will clearly require a fair degree of recommissioning. Though, we are told that the engine "has covered few miles since its overhaul and runs with good oil pressure", "the clutch is free" and "the gearbox (with floor mounted gear change) working". The Lagonda comes complete with some service history between 1959 and 1974 and three old MOTs that suggest the indicated mileage of 76,232 could perhaps be correct. A rare and exciting opportunity to obtain an unmolested quality '50s classic.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
