The classic Mustang hardtop coupe body style ran from the car's '64 introduction, and this one is a 1965 model-year San Jose, California-built example. After the Mustang's spectacularly successful '64 launch, Ford addressed the lack of performance criticized by some road testers by introducing two versions of the 289ci motor to sit above the '64 model year's top engine, an asthmatic 260. On this car, the C-code in the VIN number denotes an original-fit 200hp 289ci (4736cc) V8, a two-barrel carburettored version, and the most powerful engine available with the T-handle 3-speed C4 automatic, itself an optional gearbox above the standard three-speed manual. This was the standard tune of engine for the GT spec cars. While the famed 'K-car' optioned 271hp Mustangs are more powerful, they are more of a compromise between practicality and performance. This car's engine is enhanced by some Cobra-style dress up goodies under the bonnet - rocker covers and a chromed freeflow air filter.

During the era of long options tick lists, many taken-for-granted items were additional cost, and this car benefits from that important mark against the box captioned power-steering. In truth, a Mustang with this auto and steering specification is what US car buyers expect. The interior is trimmed in blue vinyl, an attractive and unusual complement to the Silver Blue paintwork, and has an auxiliary gauge fitted to the left of the steering column, after the style and position of the optional Rally Pac tachometer and clock placement. The car also benefits from a top/tinted glazing. The steering wheel is an option - the 'deluxe' named item, with wood rim and brushed silver accent details, complementing the cabin chromework perfectly. The vendor describes both bodywork and engine as being in "excellent" condition, while he considers the automatic transmission, electrical equipment, interior trim and paintwork to be "good". Also, the car is fitted with the desirable styled-steel wheels and narrow-band whitewall tyres, adding to its period charm.
