Rover was founded by J K Starley, who is credited with great pioneering work on the bicycle, though it was his son Jack Starley and fellow proprietor Harry Smith who really put the Midland firm on the modern motoring map with their 1920 launched Rover Eight.
This 1936 Rover Twelve, which has been in the hands of the current Birmingham owner since 1972, since when the sports saloon is claimed only to have been looked after by professional mechanics. During his long ownership, owner and BVP 340 have successfully completed several Norwich Union Runs, the Shakespeare Run and took part in Rover Sports Register and Rover marque events locally. The documents file contains full history and various handbooks and manuals.
Current chassis condition is described as good, bodywork, black paintwork and brown leather interior also good, and 12hp four and four-speed manual gearbox as well as electrics all in excellent order. The latest MOT certificate will be valid until the beginning of April of next year, the tax-exempt disc current until the end of April. The mileage displayed when entered is believed by the vendor to be the genuine total for the 12hp Rover.
