"Aprilia's new RST Futura is the best sport-touring bike money can buy. It has power, brakes, bags, comfortable ergonomics, excellent wind protection, the best seat in the business and styling that's pure art and makes the Ducati ST4 look older than it really is". (Motorcycle Online, July 2001)
Introduced in 2001, the Aprilia RST 1000 Futura sports-tourer shared the same basic chassis and engine design as its RSV Mille superbike sibling. Thus, its magnesium-aluminium alloy sloping parallel-beam frame was powered by a Rotax supplied DOHC 998cc 60? V-twin engine featuring dry-sump lubrication and patented balancer shafts. Delivering less power (113bhp vs. 128bhp) but more torque as well as greater flexibility in its new application, the unit boasted the latest Sagem EFI system, twin-spark ignition and revised 51mm throttle bodies etc. With Showa 43mm forks up front and a Sachs shock absorber controlled single rear swinging arm, the Futura was beautifully balanced. Available with notably flush-fitting panniers courtesy of an exhaust that was routed under its saddle, it further benefited from a six-speed gearbox (complete with Aprilia's 'Pneumatic Power Clutch') and Brembo Gold Series disc brakes.
Finished in Stream Silver with a grey saddle, this particular example reputedly carries Frame Number 001 and Engine Number 001. Apparently showing zero miles on its odometer, it has yet to be UK registered. A stunning looking bike with its distinctive headlight and combined rear-view mirror / indicator units, this modern classic is offered at a substantial discount but without warranty.
