Introduced at the 1992 Motor Show, the Chimaera was intended to be a more practical, user-friendly machine than the formidable Griffith. To this end, it sported a proper boot and more cosseting interior. Styled by John Ravenscroft and Peter Wheeler, company lore has it that the front indicator recesses were the result of Wheeler's dog Ned taking a bite out of one of the foam mock-ups. Equipped with all-round unequal length double wishbone suspension (complete with coil-over shock absorbers and anti-roll bars) the Chimaera was initially available with a choice of 4.0 litre or 4.3 litre V8 engines. Quoted as developing some 280bhp and 305lbft of torque, the larger of these two units was reputedly capable of propelling the British born supercar from 0-60mph in 4.6 seconds, 0-100mph in 11.3 seconds and onto 158mph! Luckily all Chimaeras came with four-wheel disc brakes and a Quaife differential as standard.
Finished in red with beige leather upholstery / red carpets, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in good condition with regard to its engine, five-speed manual gearbox, electrical equipment, interior trim, chassis, bodywork and paintwork. Reputed to have covered just 54,093 miles from new, as corroborated by its "absolute total history", it is said to have been "over-serviced" by a mixture of "TVR dealer or specialist" garages. Riding on smart BBS-style lattice alloy wheels, it is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until 20th January 2006.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
