This particular Terrapin competitions car was constructed in 1969 by the well known specials builder and competitor Alan Staniforth. A Mk1 Terrapin, it was powered by a 970 Mini Cooper S engine, the self-build race car being designed by Staniforth and fully detailed in the northern journalist and author's definitive book "High Speed Low Cost - the story of a 140mph Mini-engined world record breaker and how to build it". Although out of print for some years, thanks to the efforts of Terrapin builder Robert Mackay, a 40th Anniversary Edition of this Terrapin builders bible was published in 2003.
The overall condition of chassis, open race-type bodywork and paintwork of this car is described by the entrant as good with four-cylinder motor and four-speed manual gearbox also reportedly in good order. The hill climb and sprint ready machine comes complete with a spare nose-cone, extra wheels with wet weather tyres and even a trailer. With Mini mechanical components (plus, we would suggest, a copy of Staniforth's book for reference!), this historic competitions car should be entirely practical and affordable to event and should reward a new owner with much fun for little cost.
