Sold for £19,969

(including buyers premium)

Lot details
Registration No: TK 8799
Chassis No: 45357
Mot Expiry: Exempt

Like its Tourer and Le Mans siblings, the Singer Nine Sports Coupe was actively campaigned by the Works with F.S. Barnes driving one on the 1933 Monte Carlo Rally etc. According to its factory build records, this particular example - chassis 45357 - was completed during late January 1933 and supplied new via Henleys of Bournemouth to Mr East or perhaps Mr Case (the handwriting is indistinct) of Parkstone, Dorset. A Deluxe model, it was put on test by Mr Bicknell who later helped prepare the factory's 1934 Le Mans and 1935 Ards TT entrants. Smaller and lighter than their successors, the 1933-model year Coupes featured helmet wings and a four-inch narrower cabin. One of just nine survivors known to the Singer Owners' Club, `TK 8799' was reportedly treated to a new ash frame and mechanical overhaul as part of an extensive `chassis up' restoration carried out by marque specialist Ian Blackburn during the 1990s. Entering the current ownership in June 2011, the compact four-seater has since undergone a host of minor improvements. As well as gaining a Kenlowe fan and new coolant hoses, the original engine (number 46988) has had its manifold refurbished and twin carburettors rejuvenated. Further benefiting from a brake system overhaul, reconditioned fuel gauge / sender unit, relined sunroof, restored / upgraded headlights, re-polished interior woodwork and sundry rewiring (including a new fusebox), the Singer has also had attention paid to its steering joints, bulkhead, windscreen wiper, wheel bearings, door locks and window winders / escutcheons. Starting readily upon inspection and certainly enhanced during the current custodianship, this elegantly proportioned and very rare 1933 Singer Deluxe Nine Sports Coupe is only being offered for sale because its 6ft 4in vendor finds it too tight a squeeze on long journeys.
