Lot details Registration No: LLX918D Chassis No: 57255 Mot Expiry: Oct 2006
Introduced at the 1965 Geneva Motor Show, the 850 Coupe was designed in-house by Centro Stile Fiat. A sporty, rear-engined, two-door fastback, its monocoque chassis featured all round independent suspension (transverse-leaf front / coil-sprung rear) and disc / drum brakes. Powered by a tuned version of its saloon sibling's water-cooled 843cc OHV four-cylinder unit developing an impressive 47bhp @ 6,200rpm, it was equipped with a four-speed manual gearbox as standard. A four-seater despite its diminutive 2027mm wheelbase, it weighed all of 720kg and was capable of over 90mph.
Finished in grey with red vinyl upholstery, this particular right-hand drive example was reputedly John Bolster's 'company car' when he joined Gregor Grant at Autosport. A formidable technical editor as well as a personality of immense stature in the 'vehicule ancienne' movement, his deer stalker clad presence is much missed. Recently re-commissioned following a period of barn storage, the Fiat has reportedly had "much money spent" on it. Described by the vendor as being in "near concours condition" with "excellent" engine, gearbox, electrical equipment, chassis, bodywork, paintwork and wheels / tyres, the diminutive coupe is thought to retain its original interior trim (said to be in "good" order). Riding on rare Dunlop wire wheels, this super stylish 850 sports an Abarth badge and is offered for sale with handbook, workshop manual and MOT certificate valid until November 2007.
PLEASE NOTE: This vehicle has an MOT until October 2006.
