Ephemera Relating to The Circle of 19th Century Motorists
Lot details
The Circle of 19th Century Motorists was founded in 1911 and at one time its membership reached 220. The restriction on membership was limited to anybody that had owned or driven a motorcar prior to the Thousand Mile Trial of 1900 - the club therefore had a finite lifespan and the last recorded reunion was in 1943. Heavily linked to the Royal Automobile Club, a plaque hangs at the Pall Mall clubhouse, listing all of the former presidents and Chairmen. The lot comprises -1. A sterling Silver cigarette case, dating from 1930 celebrating '30 years on the Road' - with enamelled 'winged wheel' badge to hinging lid.2. An enamelled official's lapel badge on original 'Gordon Bennett' lucky horseshoe chain. A buttonhole badge, dated 1911 and issued to founding members of the club. Unrepeatable, early motoring ephemera.
