This 280SE four-door with 3.5-litre engine first left the Stuttgart factory in 1971 and was originally purchased by a titled High Court judge. The right-hand drive saloon then passed into the hands of two close friends of the current owner who acquired it in 1986, since when he tells us a full refurbishment was carried out in his workshops. Following completion, all cavities and the underneath were treated with 3M wax. More recently, the complete exhaust system was renewed.
The body shell is said currently to be in good condition with gold paintwork good, although two new lower sections for the rear bumper are required. The trim in champagne velour is rated as fair. While the eight-cylinder engine is reportedly in good order, with negligible oil consumption claimed, and the four-speed automatic transmission also good. The performance, says the vendor, is all that one might expect from this model. Because of its vintage, it is road fund licence tax exempt and has a newly passed MOT certificate on file.
