The first motorcycle to be produced at the Wolverhampton workshops of Sunbeam proprietor John Marston, who had been a manufacturer of high quality enamel item, pedal cycles and, from 1912, automobiles, was a 350cc sidevalve single-cylinder machine.
It was at the 1921 French GP that the marque's soon to be famous longstroke sidevalve engine clocked up a debut win for rider Alec Bennett. Powering Sunbeam road machines, this legendary motor was then to remain in production until WW2, a version of it also powering the new for the summer of 1930 old Model 6 replacement, the re-vamped Lion with such new features as a chrome-plated petrol tank and Webb-pattern girder forks. A 599cc capacity Model 7 Lion joined the range the following year with the two trusty sidevalves remaining in production until the outbreak of war, surviving Sunbeam's sale to AMC and relocation of production to Plumstead.
This 1936-dated Model 7 on black, well restored with all items in good condition, is claimed to be an excellent runner. A V5 is included.
