Lot details Registration No: R724BGV Chassis No: SARRDWBEBWD038288 Mot Expiry: Nov 2011
Introduced at the March 1995 Geneva Motor Show, the MG F was the first 'clean sheet' design to wear an octagon badge in 33 years. Designed by Gerry McGovern, its two-door monocoque chassis was equipped with Hydragas independent suspension, rack and pinion steering and four-wheel disc brakes. Powered by a transversely mid-mounted 1.8 litre K-series dohc four-cylinder engine - itself a revolutionary featherweight - mated to five-speed manual transmission, the MG F could be had in various states of tune varying from 118bhp (standard) to 143bhp (VVC model). Outselling the likes of the Mazda MX-5, BMW Z3 and Toyota MR2, it soon became Britain's most popular sports car, and spawned its own race series. Following a facelift in 1999, in 2002 the F became TF, taking its name from a classic earlier MG model, the most significant change being to steel springs. Though production was suspended for two years when Rover collapsed in 2005, there remains a good spares and support network for these cars.
Finished in Blue with Black cloth upholstery, `R724 BGV' is described by the vendor as being in "very good" condition with regard to its engine, gearbox, electrical equipment, interior trim and bodywork. Rating the car's paintwork as "excellent", he goes on to say that: "These early MGFs are becoming very collectable. This immaculate low-mileage example has covered only 60,000 miles with full service history (10 stamps) up to 56,000 miles. An excellent car offering amazing value for money".
