Lot details Registration No: KCW620G Chassis No: GID55905BW Mot Expiry: Oct 2007
Introduced at the October 1966 Earl's Court Motor Show, the Jaguar 420G utilised the same sleek four-door monocoque bodyshell as its MKX predecessor. Visually distinguished by a revised radiator grille, pronounced side-repeater indicators and restyled hubcaps, the newcomer also boasted a repositioned clock and more impact friendly padded dashboard top. A paragon of mechanical refinement - as befitted Jaguar's flagship saloon - it featured all-round independent suspension, power steering and four-wheel disc brakes. Powered by a 4235cc DOHC straight-six engine allied to either manual or automatic transmission, the model proved deceptively quick (contemporary road tests spoke of a 122mph top speed and 0-60mph in 10.3 seconds). Though, such performance was somewhat at odds with the cosseting ambience of its interior. Capacious and luxurious in equal measure, the six-seater cabin was trimmed in a mixture of supple leather, rich wood veneers and soft carpets. Only in production for four years, a mere 5,429 RHD 420Gs are thought to have left the Browns Lane factory.
Finished in metallic pink champagne over red with fawn leather upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "good" condition with regard to its 4235cc engine, three-speed automatic transmission, electrical equipment, interior trim, chassis, bodywork, paintwork and wheels / tyres. Said to have covered just 62,400 miles from new, this elegant Jaguar is offered for sale with MOT certificate and historic class (free) road tax until October 2007.
