2009 Nostalgia XK120 Evocation

Lot details
Registration No: D663UNT
Chassis No: BGACBNCC0015STA1K
Mot Expiry: Feb 2013

The stunning-looking XK120 Roadster caused a sensation when it was launched at the 1948 London Motor Show. Capable of 120mph, it immediately assumed the mantle of the world's fastest production car. The Fixed Head Coupe followed in 1951 with the Drop Head Coupe completing the range in 1953. The key to the newcomer's sensational performance was its all-new, alloy-headed DOHC 3.4-litre, straight-six engine; the basic design of which successfully powered a whole range of Jaguars until the late '80s. The 120's suspension was independent by wishbones and torsion bars at the front and by a live axle on semi-elliptic leaf springs at the rear. Steering was by recirculating ball and braking courtesy of Lockheed hydraulic drums all round.

The ever rising prices of original XK120s has inevitably swelled the market for replicas, and this immaculate car is a 2009 XK120 evocation based on a chassis/body kit manufactured by the respected Nostalgia concern. It is understood to have been assembled with 'no expense spared' by the vendor, a retired motor trader, and has covered just 426 miles since completion. The hand-laid fibreglass body has been professionally finished to a high standard in Ferrari Rosso Red and the interior trimmed in Cream leather. The 4.2-litre engine, automatic gearbox and remaining running gear all emanated from a 1986 Jaguar XJ6 Series 3 donor car. An equivalent Nostalgia-built XK120 evocation would currently cost in the region of £49,000 plus VAT. The vendor considers the bodywork, paintwork and interior trim to be "excellent", the engine "very serviceable" and the recently refurbished automatic gearbox "good". 'D663 UNT' comes complete with no less than three anti-theft devices and an MOT into February 2013. Though the car currently lacks a hood or side screens, they could readily be fitted by Nostalgia or an alternative supplier. Period elegance teamed with '80s running gear at an affordable price.
