The field of classic motorcycle racing has developed to such an extent that no serious competitor today would consider campaigning an original machine, partly due to the ever increasing value of original, matching number machines but also due to advances in performance that modern manufacturing techniques and developments have made possible. A Manx, 7R or G50 built today should exceed the performance of an original works bike by a comfortable margin, whilst for the rider the knowledge that the fork legs, hubs and frame were built recently and are consequently far more likely to withstand racing conditions without failing is reassuring as is the knowledge that should something happen an irreplaceable piece of racing history is not being placed in jeopardy.
This 350cc Manx was built during 1998 using an Andover Norton frame and swinging arm as the basis. A set of short leading link Renolds forks built by Ken Spayson grace the front end instead of the more usual "Roadholders". A Molnar engine built by Fred Walmsley provides the motive power which is transmitted to the new Quaife/Hemmings gearbox via a chain primary drive.
Attractively presented in the traditional silver and black Norton livery, the machine is fitted with a twin leading shoe front brake, Amal GP carburetor, flyscreen and alloy rims. The vendor describes it as being in good condition both mechanically and cosmetically. The engine has recently been totally rebuilt to race ready condition.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
