Lot details Registration No: YAM888T Chassis No: V812020RCAS Mot Expiry: Oct 2005
Aston Martin owes its now world famous name to marque founder Lionel Martin and the Aston Clinton hill where Martin's souped-up Singer Ten was a class winner at a 1913 hill climb meeting held on a stretch of public road in rural Buckinghamshire. In partnership with Robert Bamford, Martin and Bamford sold Singers and Calthorpes in Fulham and South Kensington. The first car to carry the Aston Martin marque badge took to the road in 1921. After closure in 1926, however, a new firm soon fired up in Feltham, Middlesex, and, when industrialist David Brown took over, production moved to Buckinghamshire.
This V8 coupe, a right-hand drive fixed head two-door, was built by the Aston Martin craftsmen at Newport Pagnell in 1978. The current keeper tells us that it is a nice sound car which has been regularly used in recent years and has lots of history on file. Recent work carried out, we are told, has included renewing mountings for V8 engine, gearbox and differential in 2004.
Currently chassis, body panels and blue paintwork are described as being in good condition and interior in parchment leather excellent. The 5.4-litre motor is reportedly in very good order, the automatic transmission is also good and electrical equipment very good. The mileage displayed on sale day is believed by the entrant to be the genuine total for the Grand Tourer from new, whilst the current MOT certificate applies until September and the registration is rather nice. Potentially, a V8 Aston like this might be super value for your money too.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
