Lot details Registration No: EYW 823 Chassis No: 5063382 Mot Expiry: Exempt
Resembling a scaled-down Horch (another of Auto Union's constituent marques), the F5 700 De Luxe Drophead Coupe boasted a sophisticated, independently-sprung, front-wheel drive chassis that was powered by a 685cc twin-cylinder two-stroke engine allied to three-speed manual transmission. Although built to RHD specification including handsome Bauer coachwork during October 1937, chassis 5063382 was not UK registered until January 1st 1939. A continuation logbook issued on October 14th 1955 lists K.A. Melbourne Cooper as its then owner. Thereafter the DKW is known to have passed through the hands of B. White, M. Fenton and D. Connolly before entering the current family ownership during 2005. Reputedly treated to a new hood in 1980 plus an engine overhaul and sundry re-chroming during Mr Connolly's stewardship (1983-2005), more recent work has seen the four-seater benefit from a bare metal respray (W.A. Graham of Newry, 2006-7), re-trimmed interior (Kilkeel Upholstery, 2009), rewiring and refurbished wheels / new tyres (2009).
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
