"Derek Minter crowned his Brands Hatch season by completing a double hat-trick last Sunday. For he not only won three of the four races in which he rode over the 2.65-mile 'Grand Prix' circuit, but he notched his third successive victory on the de Havilland-sponsored E.M.C. two-stroke which he first rode eight days earlier at Aintree. . . Minter made a poor start. But within three laps he had romped past Dan Shorey, Fred Hardy (Bultacos) and Avery to take the lead. And next time round he clocked the first over-80mph 125cc lap of the circuit in 1 min. 59.2 sec. - only 2.11mph slower than Mike Hailwood's existing 250cc record" (Motor Cycling, October 12th 1961).
According to information supplied to the vendor by Dr Ehrlich upon purchase, this Works EMC GP 125 machine was campaigned during the 1961 and 1962 seasons by Phil Read, Peter Inchley, Peter Williams and Derek Minter. Whether or not it is the actual bike with which Minter set the new Brands Hatch Lap Record is uncertain. However, it is of the type he used to secure wins at Brands Hatch, Oulton Park and Aintree.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
