Lot details Registration No: J111BWG Chassis No: ZAR11506606014628 Mot Expiry: March 2010
Final evolution of Alfa Romeo's 105-Series Spider, the S4 variant was introduced in 1990. Visually distinguished by its colour-coded bumpers, neatly integrated sideskirts and full-width rear lights, it was based around a two-door monocoque bodyshell equipped with independent coil and wishbone front suspension, a coil-sprung 'live' rear axle and servo-assisted brakes. Powered by a choice of 1.6 litre or 2.0 litre DOHC four-cylinder engines allied to five-speed manual transmission, the model proved a sprightly performer. Credited with some 120bhp and 157Nm of torque, the larger-engined derivative was reputedly capable of 0-60mph in 9.4 seconds and 119mph.
Finished in Alfa Red with tan half-leather upholstery, this particular left-hand drive example is described by the vendor as being in "very good overall" condition. Reportedly manufactured on May 24th 1991 and supplied new to a member of the British armed forces who was stationed in Germany, the Spider is understood to have had just one other keeper before entering the current (third) ownership during September 2004. Apparently treated to "over £11,000 worth of upgrades and refurbishment work" since then including the fitting of an Alfaholics full sports / non-cat stainless steel exhaust system (July 2006), mohair hood by TA & JM Coburn of Swindon (August 2006) and Alfaholics fast road suspension kit (September 2006), 'J111 BWG' is further said to have benefited from back axle and gearbox overhauls by Cloverleaf Transmissions in September 2006 and November 2007 respectively. Riding on 15-inch alloy wheels, the Alfa Romeo boasts a colour-coded factory hardtop, power steering and electric windows / door mirrors (though, the steering wheel shown in the interior photo is no longer with it). Sympathetically uprated, this highly presentable Spider is offered for sale with a "massive history folder (bills from new, handbooks etc)" and current MOT certificate.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
