Lot details Registration No: UOC933H Chassis No: HANI0/85700G Mot Expiry: July 2007
Announced in October 1966, the Austin-Healey Sprite MKIV utilised the same monocoque chassis as its predecessors. Equipped with independent coil and wishbone front suspension, a 'live' rear axle, disc / drum brakes and rack and pinion steering, its adoption of a larger 1275cc twin-carburettor fed A-series engine and improved one-piece folding hood meant that it was both faster and more civilised. Visually updated in October 1969 with Rostyle wheels, black painted sills and sundry trim changes, the MKIV remained in production until July 1971.
Finished in Tartan Red with black upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "good" condition with regard to its 1275cc unleaded engine, four-speed manual gearbox, electrical equipment, chassis, bodywork and wheels / tyres. Reportedly rebuilt and resprayed by its previous keeper, 'UOC 933H' has nevertheless been treated to a reconditioned gearbox, replacement differential and new clutch (plus associated master cylinder) since entering the current ownership in July 2006. Non functional speedometer and temperature gauge aside, the roadster is said to be "nippy and reliable". Apparently fitted with a "good tonneau cover, adequate hood but bad hood cover", the Sprite also comes with "a jack, wheelbrace, detached / tarnished bumpers and anti-theft switch (located behind the fuel gauge)". Understood to stand the seller in at some £3,500 including purchase (and thus to have irked his better half), this diminutive Austin-Healey is being offered for sale entirely without reserve but with MOT certificate valid until July 2nd 2007 and historic class (free) road tax June 30th 2007.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
