Founded in 1919, the Alvis company made its reputation in the 1920s by building the 12/50 sports and with its pioneering efforts with front-wheel drive. The 1930s saw a change of direction to more luxury machinery such as the legendary Speed 20 and 25, which, in their day, were very close rivals to the sporting motor cars made by Bentley. Alvis have always enjoyed a well deserved reputation for producing fine handbuilt motors of quality and distinction.
This Alvis first left their Coventry works in 1967, one of the last TF 21 to be built and therefore being in receipt of an F registration. This 2-door sports saloon also benefits from power-assisted steering and the much more attractive knock-on spoked wire wheels.
The current condition of chassis and aluminium bodywork are described by the vendor as being good. The dark blue paintwork is said to be fair, the interior in light blue hide and headlining good and all the woodwork good with period push-button radio surviving intact. The 3-litre 6-cylinder engine and desirable ZF 5-speed manual gearbox as well as the electrical equipment are reportedly in good order.
Indeed, when we inspected this motor car ourselves, the motor started up first time and achieved very good oil pressure. Judging by the pedal encountered, however, the brakes did appear to have seized through inactivity with the car having been in storage; a relatively simple fault to fix. When entered for this sale, the odometer displayed 70,900 miles.
PLEASE NOTE: This car has no foot brakes.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
