  • Rare UK supplied RHD car and believed to be one of only a handful in existence
  • Restored in 2012 and 116,573 recorded miles
  • Bodywork styled by Pininfarina

The Peugeot 304 was launched at the 1966 Paris Motor Show. It was introduced as a mid-sized family car and was based on the smaller 204’s midsection. Peugeot described this as ‘’the car with the heart of a lion’’ and called it a ‘’balanced machine, with as much weight over the front wheels as over the rear wheels, like a super-expensive sports car’’.The body was styled by Pininfarina and offered in a variety of styles including a 4-door saloon, 4-door estate, 2-door coupe, 2-door convertible and even a van. The car boasted independent suspension, front-wheel drive and disc brakes, which at the time were usually only found on more expensive cars. The 1288cc petrol engine offered 65 bhp, while the S version of the engine offered in 1972 increased the power to 75 bhp. The model ran with very few modifications until 1980 and was succeeded by the 305.

The 304 changed little during a model life exceeding ten years. From the outside, the saloon received a simplified rear light cluster design in September 1972, and the Peugeot badge appearing on the front grille now took on a gold coloured solid form in place of the silver/grey coloured outline badge that the car had worn hitherto. The roofline of the saloon was discreetly squared off to give greater headroom for rear passengers: the window frames on the rear doors were modified correspondingly, adding about and inch and a half to their rearmost upper edge and making them unique to the 304, while the car's front doors remained interchangeable with those on the 204. Changes under the metal included the replacement of the dynamo with an alternator in 1971.

Manufactured in 1973, this incredibly rare 304 S Coupe was supplied to the UK, being registered new in August that year and finished in Corn yellow with contrasting Chocolate Brown interior. This example was subject to restoration in 2012 and is showing 16,573 miles on the odometer however the mileage is believed to be 116,576. The car was purchased by the current owner to use at a relative’s wedding and has now decided the time is right for the car to find it’s next keeper.

This Peugeot comes accompanied with V5C and a small, yet interesting history that leads the owner to believe that the car has spent most of its life in and around London.
