1966 Ford Mustang Coupe

Lot details

Registration No: TRX 213D
Chassis No: 6FO7C628930
MOT: Exempt

Motor Car Location: Hampshire

  • Mated to a Ford 5.7l ‘Windsor’ V8 that was subject to a fully documented overhaul by John Simmonds to semi-race specification
  • Offered with 51,325 recorded miles, new tyres and was serviced in February 2021
  • Comes accompanied with a large folder including a number of instruction manuals for many aftermarket components fitted, as well as a spare set of steel wheels.

In continuous production since 1964, the Mustang is currently the longest-produced Ford car nameplate. Currently in its sixth generation, it is the fifth-best selling Ford car nameplate. The namesake of the "pony car" automobile segment, the Mustang was developed as a highly styled line of sporty coupes and convertibles derived from existing model lines, initially distinguished by "long hood, short deck" proportions.

Originally predicted to sell 100,000 vehicles yearly, the 1965 Mustang became the most successful vehicle launch since the 1927 Model A. Introduced on April 17, 1964 over 400,000 units were sold in its first year; the one-millionth Mustang was sold within two years of its launch. In August 2018, Ford produced the 10-millionth Mustang; matching the first 1964 ½ Serial #1 Mustang, the vehicle was a 2019 Wimbledon White convertible with a V8 engine, the very same colour as the car offered here.

TRX 213D was subject to a three-year total restoration in 2003 soon after it was imported from the US, incorporating a host of performance enhancements and other desirable features in the finest traditions of American 'hot-rodding'. The vehicle was resprayed in its previous Wimbledon White and received a restoration on the two-tone blue interior featuring Auto Gauge Pro Comp instruments, Shelby original-equipment Motolita wood-rim steering wheel and Simpson five-point harnesses. A Four-wheel disc brake conversion was completed with braided hoses and twin AP racing brake servos.

TRX 213D was mated to a Ford 351cu in (5.7-litre) 'Windsor' engine that was the subject of a fully documented overhaul by John Simmons to semi-race specification: a Ford lightweight crankshaft, Eagle race con-rods, Keith Black race pistons, Crane high-lift camshaft and followers, Trickflow aluminium cylinder heads, Edelbrock Performer RPM inlet manifold, Holley 650cfm carburettor, Hooker Performance headers and Flowmaster exhaust system being just some of the highlights of the specification at the time.

Power is transmitted via a C4 heavy duty three-speed automatic gearbox to the 9" Versailles 3.5:1 rear axle, while rest of the running gear too was up-rated to cope with the greatly increased performance, featuring Magna suspension, subframe connectors, Monte Carlo engine brace and four-wheel disc brake conversion with braided hoses and twin AP racing brake servos. It has been said that at the time, the car was capable of running 12-second standing quarters.

Since 2003, TRX 213D has remained largely unaltered, and was acquired by the current owner in August 2019. Now, the car displays 51,328 recorded miles and has benefitted from Boyd Coddington wheels being fitted, a mallory fuel pump, new battery in August 2020, a service in February 2021 and 4 new tyres. TRX 213D comes accompanied with a large folder including invoices for much of the work undertaken, photographic evidence of the engine overhaul and a number of instruction manuals for aftermarket components fitted which we are informed by the owner have been extremely useful. Included are also a set of steel wheels.
